Shoe Film

Found Footage
Shoe Film is a found footage compilation of Youtube videos concerning the matter of shoe throwing at political figures after (and before) the key image of Iraqi journalist Muntazar al-Zaidi's hurling shoes at President Bush at a press conference on December 14, 2008 in Iraq. The black leather shoe, in its object form as a phallic symbol of dirt - combined with the act of throwing - as a symbol of weapon and an implicit derogatory remark on the status-quo, is the main element repeated, edited, and cut for purposes of exploring varying degrees of meaning and the problem of disordered meaning. The discomfort in the image that is created by the sudden cut in speech and motion, and therefore, the transformation from an expected flow of logic toward a mechanical representation of the meaningless, strives to achieve rational thinking based off of “bunk” imagery.
