The Walking Mind
2008
5.5"x8"
Hand- stitched, Folding Artist's Book

The Walking Mind is a representation of the constant flow of thought in the mind when a person aimlessly strolls through the streets on a daily basis. It consists of three texts printed alongside each other; direct quotations from the protagonist Raskolnikov in Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment, an analysis of Shostakovich's Symphony No5 in D Minor, and an autobiographical story about how I feel when I am walking. As the book unfolds, the reader is taken through the different texts at random pace and order, similar to what happens in the mind and the body during the act of walking. Referencing the idea of Baudelaire's Flaneur, this book is a phenomenological visual and typographical exploration of sensual
thinking and the body as philosophy.
